St. Michael’s Veterans Center is a 24 acre campus located at E. 39th Street and Emanuel Cleaver Blvd. This unique campus is being developed to specifically address the needs of at-risk military veterans with safe, quality housing and support services, including case management and counseling.
St. Michael’s Veterans Center will consist of 166 units of housing for Veterans of the United States Military Services, targeting those with critical housing needs, including those who are homeless or soon to be homeless. The 1st 58 units of housing will be constructed in 2013.
The campus will also include an integrated welcome center and supportive services building, that will contain an array of services, programs and activities customized to best improve the quality of life for Kansas City’s Veterans.
The goal is to empower veterans toward healthy reintegration within their family and community. Value added services will be provided in a coordinated effort to promote:
• Healthy family development
• Positive transitions into the community
• Useful and respectful anger management strategies
• Identification of personal assets and strengths to enhance self-worth
• The strengthening of fatherhood roles and responsibilities
• The enrichment of relationship building between couples
Planned services will include, mental health and substance abuse counseling, peer to peer mentoring,, employment readiness and job skills training, legal support, referrals for education or GED instruction, and assistance in obtaining local, state and/or federal benefits.
